How to Lubricate and Maintain Your Slide Gate Drive Chain
Automatic sliding gates are driven by a long metal chain running from the gate panel through the operator drive sprockets. Because this chain is exposed to dirt, rain, and road dust, it requires regular maintenance to prevent grinding and snapping.
Cleaning and Lubrication Protocol
Clean your gate chain twice a year by brushing away old grease, dirt, and leaves using a wire brush. Apply a specialized **dry-lubricant spray** or dry-chain oil. Avoid sticky grease or heavy oils, which collect dirt and grind down the chain links.
Checking the Chain Tension
A loose chain will slip off the sprockets or cause the gate to jerk. Adjust the chain take-up bolts on both ends of the gate to ensure the chain has no more than 1-2 inches of sag. If it is too tight, it will place excessive strain on the motor bearings.
