Commercial vs. Residential Garage Doors: Key Differences
While commercial and residential garage doors look similar, they are designed for vastly different operational demands. Installing a residential door in a commercial warehouse, or vice versa, will lead to mechanical failure and code violations.
Residential Garage Doors
Residential doors prioritize aesthetic appeal, thermal insulation, and quiet operation:
- Designed for 2-4 cycles per day.
- Equipped with springs rated for 10,000 cycles.
- Use lighter 24 to 26-gauge steel.
Commercial Garage Doors
Commercial doors prioritize rugged durability, high-cycle operation, and speed:
- Designed for up to 50-100 cycles per day.
- Equipped with high-cycle springs rated for 50,000 to 100,000 cycles.
- Constructed with thick 20 to 22-gauge steel or heavy aluminum.
